ICOLD bestows Honorary Membership to Tony Bennett
On November 30 at the ICOLD General Assembly meeting, ICOLD announced it had bestowed Honorary Membership to Tony Bennett. As per the ICOLD by-laws, “At each Annual Meeting of ICOLD, the President may, after consultation with other ICOLD Officers, put forward names of eminent personalities with distinguished reputations in the field of dams to be awarded the title of Honorary Member of ICOLD.”
Tony graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1982 and is the Director of Dam and Public Safety at Ontario Power Generation, a position that he has held since 2002. Throughout his career, Tony has driven the development and advancement of dam and public safety practices in Canada and around the world and supported the broader dam safety community on many external review panels.
As a volunteer, Tony is well-known having served as the Engineering Institute of Canada’s President from 2010-2012, as CDA’s President in 2015-2016 and mostly recently as Co-Chair of ICOLD 2019.
