Technical Tours -Thursday, October 18

Safety boots are mandatory for each technical tour.  Each participant is responsible for bringing their own pair of safety boots. If additional protective equipment is required for the technical tours, this will be communicated to participants closer to the date.

Technical Tour #1 - Beaupré Coast Dams

8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
$125 + taxes (QST + GST)


This tour will take you east of Quebec City to conduct a tour of Hydro-Canyon’s 23 MW run-of-the-river power plant, which was launched in 2016, near the Canyon Sainte-Anne’s recreational tourism facilities. This tour will also take you through historic sites at Chute Montmorency and Sept-Chutes (Hydro-Québec), 100-year-old works on sites with spectacular views.

Technical Tour #2 - St. Maurice River Dams

8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
$125 + taxes (QST + GST)


This tour will take you west of Quebec City, specifically the Shawinigan area, for a tour of the La Gabelle Dam, Spillway and Hydropower Plant (129 MW), including a presentation on the recent replacement of the spillway superstructure. The tour also includes a tour of the Hydro-Québec observation tower at the Cité de l’Énergie as well as a presentation on the preliminary project for major rehabilitation of the Rapide-Blanc power plant and dam (204 MW).

Technical Tour #3 - Chaudière River Dams

8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
$125 + taxes (QST + GST)


This visit will take you south of Quebec City for a visit to the Sartigan Dam (owned by the Government of Quebec), a flood control dam that has recently undergone major repairs to its structure. In addition, this tour will include the Chaudière (Innergex) Generating Station, a 24 MW run-of-river hydroelectric generation facility rebuilt in 1999 after an ice jam washed-out part of the dam in 1970.

Technical Tour #4 - Tailings Dams in the Saguenay-Lac Saint-Jean Region

8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
$125 + taxes (QST + GST)


This tour will take you north of Quebec City, more specifically the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region, to visit bauxite tailings dams at the Rio Tinto (alumina plant) facilities.

Please note:  The Conference Organizing Committee and CDA reserve the right to cancel any technical tour if the required minimum number of participants is not met.  Registration fees paid for cancelled tours will be refunded.
